About Howie, Henry, and Myself

I am writing this as someone who has dealt with seizures in two dogs for several years. I have two Saint Bernards named Henry and Howie that were both diagnosed with epilepsy before the age of one. They are not related by blood and have always had cluster seizures.

I want to first say that vets have an incredibly hard job and there is currently a vet shortage that is only getting worse. We absolutely need vets. However, I have unfortunately not always had the best experience when dealing with vets and my dogs with seizures.

You have to be an advocate for your dog. They are not able to stand up for themselves and if you don’t agree with something the vet is doing or recommends you need to do something about it. I was told once that I should probably just put my dog, Howie down. I obviously didn’t listen, I never saw that vet again, and Howie is currently living a great life. I don’t understand why vets are so comfortable recommending euthanasia but not giving alternative options for pet parents to try.

I want to provide you with other choices besides prescription medication in hopes it helps your fur baby live their best life possible. This site is not meant for people who are unfamiliar with seizures. I do not define the different types of seizures or go into the different types of medications that the vet can prescribe for seizures. I am writing this to help people who feel like they are out of options and have not had success managing their dog’s seizures with traditional medications.
